Adventures in Motherhood - Part I

Meet Hank.

He's a charming little fellow, and a pesky little rascal too.

He slipped out the door Thursday evening.  And Bo and I couldn't get him to come back in before we went to sleep, so our highly domesticated house cat spent a night out in the great outdoors.  Fortunately he came home some time in the middle of the night.  He quickly disappeared into my closet where he hid all day.  I saw him for the first time at 4:30 p.m. and noticed that his left eye was swollen shut.  After calling Bo to discuss his condition, we decided that he needed to be seen by the vet before the weekend.  So in a mad dash, I loaded up Hank the Tank and Monkey McCord in the car - we made it to the vet's office just before they close.

For a split-second, I allowed myself to think that I could handle this motherhood thing pretty well - after all, I managed to maneuver a cat carrier and a car seat carrier with a sleeping infant into Rock Hill Animal Hospital before it closed at a moments notice.  But, that thought of confidence only lasted an instant.  And then the vet walked in the exam room, and McCord woke up.  Hungry.  And cranky.  And he cried

the

whole

time.

Fortunately, our vet is good natured and very understanding.  He also has a cynical sense of humor, because he chuckled when he told me Hank's cornea was lacerated and he'd need drops in his eye 4 TIMES A DAY.  And did I mention that we just had a newborn?

When we got home, this is what I found - remnants of the graham cracker bag that I left on the kitchen counter in a hurry to make it to the vet.  It was accompanied by little pieces of plastic all around the house.

Here's the guilty culprit.

The cat did it.

McCord Goes To Work

Tomorrow is Bo's last day as branch manager at the Eastside Branch of SCB&T before he moves into the Commercial Lending Dept.  He's spent 4 years at Eastside and will be leaving some wonderful friends.  McCord had a chance to meet all of them on Monday when we visited (except Bubba who was beachin' it with his fam).  Here's a picture of McCord getting some love from Teresa and Charlene.

Many thanks to Stephanie, Melanie, Teresa, Charlene and Bubba for taking care of my husband at your branch and for listening to his endless conversations about Georgia football, Beatles music, Rocky, and his latest obsession - McCord!  I know he will miss working with all of you.

Baby's First Outings

Three outings in one weekend!

The night before I went into labor, Bo and I ate at Thursday's Too, so it was only fitting that we visited there again with McCord for his first official outing.  As you can see - Bo and I are giddy with excitement - so proud of ourselves for getting out of the house.  I'm sure we were the happiest customers at the restaurant.  All of the waitresses came by to visit their youngest customer who slept the entire time.

Don't be fooled by our perky smiles..we are very sleep-deprived!

It took us all day Saturday to make it on our outing, but at 9 pm, we finally pulled up at Target.  Bo and I took McCord inside, and then we looked at each other like, "what do we do now?!"  We walked around in a total daze, enjoying being a part of the rest of America.

Sunday evening, McCord made his first trip to Earth Fare to get a couple of burgers for grilling.  Each outing was a success, and we're so proud of our little monkey.

McCord's Photoshoot

We had a great time on Saturday with McCord's photoshoot.  Nicole Rogers came to our house and took some great pictures of McCord.  Here's a link to a sneak peak slideshow on her blog.  You can check out the rest of her amazing photography here

McCord is Two Weeks Old

...and a few days

McCord, before you were even born, your daddy dreamed up a wonderful idea to plant a tree in your honor.  So when you were just 2 weeks old, he did some research and found a tree that would suit our yard.  He has dreams of you climbing this tree one day and carving your initals in it when it grows really big.  This week, we planted your tree in a special place in our yard overlooking Surrey Lane, and we call it McCord's Maple.  We chose it especially for you because this variety is know for its brilliant color in the fall.  This tree will grow and change through the seasons.  It will weather many storms.  It will see many sunrises and sunsets. It will enjoy countless beautiful days.  Just like you.  We look forward to watching you grow with your Maple tree.  We love you McCord.

Here I am at 2 weeks old pretending to stand next to my Maple tree.  Look how tiny I am!

McCord is One Week Old!

Today I celebrated my one week birthday.  Here are a few things I've experienced this week:

My first outing - a walk around the neighborhood on the 4th of July.  After our walk, my parents ate dinner on the screened porch and enjoyed the firework show put on by our neighbors.  Atleast that's what they tell me - I slept through the entire thing!

My first trip to the pediatrician.
Although I lost some weight after being discharged from the hospital, a weight check today showed that I'm now  6lbs. 11 oz., a full ounce over my birthweight!

Poppie and GeeGee came to visit on Monday and GeeGee will be coming back soon to stay for a week

And I've enjoyed having Aiya and DoeDoe stay with me this week to help my parents get adjusted to being new parents.

Life is good.
