Wade is 1 Week Old!

Happy one week birthday Wade!

Day 1

First bath

Day Two

10 tiny new toes to tickle

We couldn't wait to get our family of 4 together back home, so we asked for an early discharge from the hospital.  Here we are ready to take you home.

Here you are on your one week birthday with your biggest fan,  big brother.
We love you Wade!

OH BOY! Oh, baby boy!

Welcome to the world, Wade Perrin!

Born Saturday, May 19th, 2012
7 lbs. 9 oz
21 inches

Littlest one,

We are so in love with you.  You are just 3 days old, and already you have enriched our lives more than you will ever know.  Tonight, after your big brother had a bath, we all climbed in his bed to read stories and say prayers.  With you there, with your tiny little body and wide eyes, I felt an overwhelming sense of family.  Our family.  You are perfect in every way and a true blessing from God.

McCord was the first one to meet Wade after he was born and he got to carry a sign out to the waiting room that said "I have a baby brother!" to make the big gender announcement to our families.  Bo & I talked a lot about the day of delivery and how to best help McCord adjust, and we decided that he should be invited to meet Wade first - allowing us a few moments together as our family of 4 before the rest of the family visited.  We were so amazed and thankful to watch McCord's sweet and affectionate reaction to Wade. He crawled up on the bed with me and gave Wade a kiss!  His eyes were filled with pride and awe - two things I didn't know a 22 month-old could feel or show.

Fortunately, Bo was able to take a week off of work, so we are spending this week, just the 4 of us, adjusting.  Without a doubt, this is a tiresome and challenging process, but I am thoroughly enjoying this phase of life as we stumble through this learning curve, trying to be the best parents we can be.  These moments of bringing home our second child will only come once, and I'm relishing in the fullness of these days.

How thankful we are for two healthy, happy boys!

Hello :: A Post From McCord ::

Hello Friends,

Just popping in to say, "hello" before I officially assume my role as big brother.  Daddy's still at work waiting patiently for a call from Mama to say it's go time.

And we're building a fence!

And we have a leak in my new upstairs bathroom that will require some pretty invasive repairs from the downstairs guest bath!  Yikes!  Mama's thrilled about that  as you can imagine!  Just what we need when we bring a baby home from the hospital!

I can't wait to find out if I have a baby brother or sister!

A Farewell to Kindermusik & Lavender Gingham Fabric

Tonight was McCord's last Kindermusik class.  Well, he'll take it in preschool beginning in the fall, but it was the last class that we will take together.  We have thoroughly enjoyed the program for the past 2 years - singing, clapping, and dancing ourselves silly all in the name of fun.  It has been a great bonding experience and something we looked forward to each Tuesday.  Here's a picture of McCord at his very first Kindermusik class.  He was only a couple of months old.

And here's Mc preparing for his class today.  Homework was to make a drum.  I believe our drum was the gaudiest one there!

...but he was oh so proud of it!

Do not be deceived...this is not a hula hoop, but a boat drifting down the river!

McCord was terribly shy when we started taking this particular session of Kindermusik a few months ago and never  mustered up enough courage to go through the hula tunnel, although he really wanted to.  I was so excited tonight to see him go through the hula tunnel tonight.  He was so proud of himself!

Many thanks to my mom, Aiya, for coming with us to Mc's last class and documenting it with all of these photos!

Also, I thought I'd share a couple of projects I've been working on lately.  I can't seem to get enough of this lavender gingham fabric.  The repetition is intentional.  Here's a bunny I made for my childhood friend, Meredith, who is expecting her first child next month.

And a little something for Mc's Kindermusik buddy, Jewel, for her second birthday.  Embellishments to a couple of cute pieces I found a Target.

And in other news, Baby #2 is due in less than a week.  We can't wait to meet the next child who will change our life in amazing and unexpected ways just as McCord did 22 months ago.  And we can't wait to find out if this baby is a boy or girl!

Cupcakes & Goldfish

I think I mentioned earlier that McCord and I have planned to do one really fun thing each day until the baby arrives so that we can really make every day count.  It has been so meaningful having these special memories with McCord through our last days of being one-on-one.

Today's outing: the cupcake bakery!

If you are local - check out the new Sweet Art Cakes on Ebeneezer.   Not only is it charming and cheerful, but oh! so! delicious!

It took him no time at all to choose the Koolaid cupcake (with sprinkles)!

Yesterday we had a picnic at the nearby public garden and fed the monstrous goldfish.

Bo and I just love this picture of Mc.
While I was shooting this, I was talking to him about becoming a big brother.  We talked about all the things he can show the baby since he's so big.  He demonstrated his baseball swing, and attempted to hit something very small near his feet with his imaginary golf club.  Then he got real still and folded his hands together like he was praying.  He watched the fountain like this for a minute or so and then looked at me and nodded as if he was really considering his role as a big brother.   It's one of those motherly moments you want to remember forever.

We tried to get a picture of ourselves smooching, and it took several out takes to get this one.  Loving some special time with McCord!

And remember the baby robins that hatched in a nest on our front porch?  They're all grown up now and two of them have made our front yard their home.  We often spot them hanging out on the fence together.  They're almost as big as the full-grown robins, but they have some spots on them where their mature feathers haven't come in yet.  We've had the best time observing them!

Someone stop me!  I made Mc another pair of pants - this is the 3rd pair in about 2 weeks!  But what 22 month-old doesn't need blue seersucker football embroidered pants?!!!

A Quick Update

We are about 2 weeks out from the due date of Baby #2, and McCord and I've decided to make every day count.  While Bo's at work, we have made a pact to do something fun every single day to really enjoy our one-on-one time before Mc becomes a big brother.  Here are some of the things we did last week:

  • go to the bakery and eat cookies
  • play and explore at the children's museum
  • meet friends at the nearby pond to feed the ducks and baby geese (so cute!)
  • finger paint
  • ordering pancakes for breakfast at a special restaurant
  • meeting Daddy for lunch
  • hanging out at the playground
This week we plan to take a picnic lunch to the local gardens, feed the gold fish, and check out the new cupcake shop. Fun, fun!

Here a few pictures of some other things that have been keeping us busy.

Making a flower arrangement for the bank party.  Thank goodness for lots of inspiring images on pinterest!  It saved the day!

McCord spent Friday night at Poppie and Gee Gee's house (or as McCord calls them Pa and Ju Ju).  They did such a great job of making McCord feel extra-special by taking him to a place where he could feed the ducks and goats.  He even got to visit the fire department and sit in the fire truck!  Of course there was lots of time for playing baseball and golf.  He is becoming such a big boy!

And remember those firecracker pants I made McCord a week or so ago?  I can't get enough of them so I used the same pattern to make a pair of jams for him.  We're bringing back the 80s!
